A hinge device, comprising a hinge element (10) which comprises a shaft body (14) and a hinge main body, the shaft body (14) having a specified torque characteristic about its axis with respect to the hinge main body, a lock mechanism (30)(comprising a first lock member having a lock notch (31b) and a second lock member (34) which is energized toward the front by a spring (32) and has a locking body (34b)) which functions so that it locks the rotation about its axis of the shaft body (14), and a lock releasing mechanism (push button (40) having a projection (43)) for releasing the locking by the locking mechanism (30), whereby the provision of a separate lock mechanism is not needed for a portable electronic device, and the hinge device can be supplied contributing to the simplification and space-saving of the portable electronic device.
