A hard disk unit (101) holds coded video data coded in multiple compression formats and reads required coded data. The coded video data read from the hard disk unit (101) is decoded according to an instruction of an editing control section (109) by a first multiformat decoder (102) or a second multiformat decoder (104), and fed to a first format converter (103) or second format converter (105). Data subjected to video format conversion by the format converters is combined by a DVE (106), subjected to video format conversion by a third format converter (107), and outputted from a video output section (108).
