The bridging device is located in a chamber between turbine rotor (11) and front cover (2). It has a first piston (43) moveable in the chamber dependent upon pressure variations in the chamber. The piston is positioned near the friction surface on the front cover. A second piston (42) is moved within the chamber dependent upon pressure variations. The second piston presses the first piston in a direction towards the friction surface on the cover.
