The unit has a device, to determine the intrinsic imaging parameters of the X-ray source (9), in the form of X-ray positive markings (19). The markings geometric location relative to each other and the X-ray are known. The extrinsic parameters provide, in a fixed coordinate system (K1), the position and orientation of the focus (F) of the X-ray source as the source of a second coordinate system (k2) which is moved with the X-ray source. The intrinsic imaging parameters provide geometric reference between the X-ray source and X-ray detector(10). E.g. distance from each other, orientation o the X-ray source and detector relative to each other and offset of the X-ray detector orthogonal to the axis of the central axis of the X-ray bundle in a second co-ordinate system.
