CATALYST FOR OLEFIN/STYRENE COPOLYMERIZATION AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING OLEFIN/STYRENE COPOLYMER

A catalyst for olefin/styrene copolymerization which comprises (A) a transition metal compound, (B) a compound capable of forming an ionic complex together with an oxygenic compound or a transition metal compound, and (C) a specific compound, e.g., a product of the reaction of triphenylmethyl alcohol with triisobutylaluminum, and optionally contains (D) an alkylating agent; and a process for producing an olefin/styrene copolymer with the catalyst. The catalyst has improved activity in polymerization, so that the amount of a promoter to be used, such as an oxygenic compound, can be reduced. Thus, an olefin/styrene copolymer can be efficiently produced at a low cost.
