The method involves feeding at least one compensation pump signal into a dispersion compensated fibre. The amplitude and frequency of the pump signal is chosen to achieve the desired flat frequency response for the optical data signal. One pump frequency may have a frequency above the frequency band of the optical signal, while a second pump frequency lies below the frequency band. The power of the compensation pump signal may be controlled.
