This description sets forth a blocking system which may be used in televisio n programming and elsewhere. In one embodiment, the present invention includes a television program-blocking device. The television program-blocking device i s adapted to prevent viewing of selected television programming. This embodime nt further includes a selecting unit which is communicatively coupled to the television program-blocking device. The selecting unit is adapted to receive user-based criteria. The user-based criteria define the selected television programming which the television program-blocking device will prevent from being viewed. Additionally, the present invention includes a removable memor y unit which is communicatively coupled to the selecting unit. The removable memory unit is adapted to store the user-based criteria, such that the user- based criteria can readily be transferred to a second television program- blocking device. In so doing, the present invention allows a user to enter t he user-based criteria one time and then apply the user-based criteria to multiple other television program-blocking devices.
