<p>A high-quality image is generated. Input means (11) inputs a binary image as multi-level image. Halftone image area map generating means (12) searches for halftone image areas from a multi-level image to generate a halftone image area map (Ma). Line-drawing/text area map generating means (13) searches for line-drawing/text areas from the multi-level image to generate a line-drawing/text area map (Mb). Halftone image binarizing means (14) suppresses the input read errors of the binary image at the input means (11) and binarizes the input image corresponding to the halftone image area map (Ma) to generate a binary halftone image. Line-drawing/text smoothing means (15) smoothes irregular parts of the input image corresponding to the line-drawing/text area map (Mb) to generate a binary line-drawing/text image. Image synthesizing means (16) combines the binary halftone image and the binary line-drawing/text image to output the synthesized image.</p> |
