2-Aryl-1,3-ketoenol compounds (I) are prepared by reaction of a ketene compound (II) with a vinyl compound (III). Preparation of 2-aryl-1,3-ketoenol compounds of formula (I) comprises reaction of a ketene compound of formula (II) with a vinyl compound of formula (III), optionally in the presence of a diluent.
