The present invention relates to a method for monitoring an isocentre and a positioning device for patients, said positioning device and isocentre pertaining to an ion-beam therapy system that comprises a raster scanner device which is arranged in a beam guiding system. Said raster scanner device has vertical and horizontal deflection means for vertically and horizontally deflecting a treatment beam in a perpendicular manner in relation to the direction of said beam in such a way that the treatment beam is deflected onto an isocentre of the irradiation location by means of the raster scanner device. The treatment beam scans a certain surface which surrounds the isocentre, whereby the isocentre and the positioning device for patients are monitored and the positioning device for patients is provided with a patient table that can be pivoted around a pivoting axis. For verification, a target within the spherical phantom is represented by means of a specific monitoring body and the centre of the monitoring body is visibly represented by means of several image-producing methods. The ion-beam therapy arrangement is inspected and/or maintained when the measuring results of the spatial position of the centre in relation to the image-giving methods exceed a given intervention threshold.
