The filter assembly for a suction system, at a cross wound bobbin winder, has filter chambers which can be subjected to an underpressure, and a closure mechanism so that the chambers are at an underpressure or a normal pressure. At least one filter chamber (6,6') is divided by a closure (9,9') into a main filter chamber (7,7') and a reserve filter chamber (8,8'). An intermediate chamber (14) gives a selective connection between an underpressure supply (5) and the two filter chambers (7,7',8,8') by selected openings (12,12',13,13'), with their separate closures (15,15',16,16'). The closures (15,15',16,16') are coupled together so that, when one opening (12,12') is open the other opening (13,13') is closed, and vice versa. The intermediate chamber closures (15,15',16,16'), for the openings (12,12',13,13'), are coupled together mechanically. An opening (17,17'), for pressure compensation, is near the main filter chamber (7,7') and is closed during normal working and opened automatically when the suction opening (12,12') is closed. At least the main filter chamber (7,7') has a cleaning door (22,22') placed externally, with a closing mechanism (24,24') where, when locked, the closure (9,9') is shut between the main (7,7') and reserve (8,8') filter chambers. The filter assembly (4) has two identical filter chambers (6,6'), with one chamber (6) linked by a suction channel (18) to a number of open-end spinning stations (2). A filter chamber (6') is connected to at least one mobile maintenance unit (3) by a suction beam (19), with a suction link (20) to the dirt extraction unit (21) at the open-end spinners (2).
