The device has a frame, a working table (16,19) mounted on the frame for bi-directional adjustment in the Y direction, and a yoke element (24) mounted on the frame for vertical adjustment above the table. A carriage (26) for an optical system is arranged for vertical adjustment wrt. the yoke element and for bi-directional adjustment in the X direction. A video-optical system (27-29) mounted on the carriage to move in the Z and X directions has an objective lens mechanism on one end oriented towards a workpiece placed on the table for investigation and a video camera (28) on the other.
