The invention relates to a method for counting objects (8) stacked in a pile (7), which provides enhanced reliability and reduced error proneness in comparison with prior art. This is achieved in that at least part of the pile (7) is scanned with an image acquisition device (10) and a marking device having at least one marking interval. The image acquisition device (10) continues scanning until the entire pile (7) has been scanned. The invention also relates to a device (1) for counting the objects stacked in a pile (7), especially a device for implementing the inventive method. Said device comprises an image acquisition device (10), wherein the device (1) has a marking device with marking intervals. The image acquisition device (10) scans an image of at least one part of the pile (7) and the marking device until the entire pile (7) has been scanned.
