PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phenoxazone compound improved in luminance, fastness, and emission efficiency by reacting a nitrosophenol derivative (salt) with a naphthol compound and reacting the resultant product with a silicon compound in the presence of a base. SOLUTION: A nitrosophenol derivative (salt) of formula I is reacted with a naphthol compound of formula II in an inert solvent at 50-300 deg.C for 0.5-48 hr to give a compound of formula III, which in an amount of 1 mol is reacted with 1-10 mol of a silicon compound of formula IV in the presence of a base at 0-200 deg.C for 0.5-20 hr, thus giving a phenoxazone compound of formula V. In the formulas, R1 and R2 are each (non)substituted alkyl or (non)substituted phenyl; R3 to R5 are each H, halogen, cyano, nitro, (non)substituted alkyl, (non) substituted phenyl or the like; R6 to R8 are each (non)substituted alkyl, (non) substituted alkenyl, (non)substituted alkynyl or the like; and X is halogen or a trifluoromethanesulfonic acid residue.
