PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance accuracy and flexibility degree for disposition in a sheet tip end detection device, and lower its cost. SOLUTION: In this sheet tip end detection device equipped with a light emitting element 2 and a light receiving element 3, and capable of detecting the tip end of a sheet 6 by detecting the interception or reflection of light emitted from the light emitting element 2 with the light receiving element 3 at the tip end of the sheet 6 carried over a sheet carrying surface 8, plural light fibers 5 at the light receiving side for transmitting light emitted from the light emitting element 2 to the light receiving element 3, are provided for a space between the sheet carrying surface 8 and the light receiving element 3, and the end faces of the light fibers 5 at the light receiving side are arranged along the side of the tip end periphery of the sheet 6 to be carried over the sheet carrying surface 8.
