PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent visual field by using a single back mirror. SOLUTION: A camera 14 that is at least one image pickup device is installed behind the mirror plate 4 of a back mirror for an automobile. The image pickup device 14 is seen through the mirror plate 4 and part of coating is removed for ensuring the semi-transparent performance of the mirror plate 4. This camera 14 is connected to an image evaluation device and a display device. A CCD camera can be employed for the camera 14. A driver can maintain the visual field of a region not always covered by the back mirror such as a region at a dead angle at the side of the vehicle, in a front or rear direction by utilizing a video image caught by the camera.
