PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plotting device capable of always accurately plotting without damaging a roll sheet type medium. SOLUTION: A roll sheet type medium M extending between a loader 4 for feeding a medium M and an unloader 5 for collecting the medium M is placed and fixed on a plotting table 12, and while keeping the medium M in the aforesaid state, the plotting table 12 is slid so as to scan the medium M. In the case of idly sliding the plotting table 12 without executing the scanning operation, the plotting table 12 is slid in a state where the medium M is retreated beforehand by a medium retreating means 16.
