PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack pinion type steering device which can prevent the generation of a striking sound by the teeth of both rack and pinion. SOLUTION: A housing to cover a rack 8 engaging to a pinion rotated by the steering is provided. The rack 8 is supported to be guided in the longitudinal direction by the rotation of the pinion through supporting surfaces 31a and which are contacted along the cylindrical surface at one side end and the other side end by the housing. The steering angle is changed by the movement of the rack 8 in the longitudinal direction. The axial center of the supporting surface 31a to support one end side of the rack 8 is made eccentric to the axial center of the supporting surface 32a to support the other side end, and the axial center of the supported part at one end side of the rack 8 is made eccentric to the axial center of the supported part of the other end side correspondingly to the above eccentric amount.
