<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent feeding failures or double feed peculiar to a slope separation feeding type by changing the height position of a sheet support member according to the kind of sheet. SOLUTION: In feeding a thick sheet S, a controller controls the rotating quantity of a cam 13 according to the set by a user to rock an intermediate plate 12, so that the angle formed by the intermediate plate 12 with an inclined surface 7 and an angleαformed by the supported sheet on the intermediate plate 12 with the inclined surface 7 to reduce the yield strength of the sheet, whereby the paper feed failure is prevented. This means that a feed cassette 2a is set to a shallow feed cassette will not cause a double feed even in the feed of a small quantity of sheets. Namely, the distance between a feed arm rotating shaft and a sheet material S is set smaller than normal, and the inclination of a feed arm 9 is reduced.
