PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the recomposition of PCCDs by quenching exhaust gases of 800 deg.C in temperature to a temperature lower than the recomposition temperature of PCCDs, by whirlingly discharging the exhaust gases into the gyratory current flow of a high-pressure jetted cooling gas. SOLUTION: A quenching device is provided with a gyratory introducing section 2a in which high-temperature exhaust gases produced from various kinds of furnaces and containing PCCDs in decomposed states can be made to whirlingly flow, a gas quenching pipe 4 provided to the section 2a, and high- pressure cooling gas injection nozzles 7 arranged on the outer periphery of the pipe 4 at intervals. The quenching device is also provided with a gyratory cooling means T which can quench the high-temperature exhaust gases to a temperature lower than the composition temperature of PCCDs, by forming a gyratory vortex quenching area P of a cooling vaporizing flow injected from the nozzles 7 together with the exhaust gases discharged from the introducing section 2a by whirling the vaporizing flow in the quenching pipe 4 and a leading- out section 6 for leading out the cooled low-temperature exhaust gases.
|
