PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to easily and accustomedly to specify the position on a computer network. SOLUTION: When a user selects an optional symbol 75 in an optional application of a client computer 3 and copies the selected symbol 75 to a clip board 79, a linker 23 automatically enters a symbol 81 included in the clip board 79 and sends the symbol 81 to a uniform resource locator(URL) server 5. The server 5 provided with a database 15 storing sets of various symbols and their corresponding URLs retrieves a URL corresponding to the received symbol 103, returns the retrieved URL 109 to the linker 23 and transfers the URL to a world wide web(WWW) browser 21 to access and display a page existing in a URL 99.
