PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for desulfurizing molten steel with powdery material under reduced pressure, by which the desulfurization can efficiently be executed at a low running cost, and a reaction vessel for desulfurizing with the powdery material under reduced pressure. SOLUTION: In the method for desulfurizing the molten steel by injecting the powdery material for desulfurizing together with carrier gas through a lance 6 for injecting the powdery material from the upper part of a cylindrical immersion tube 3 dipping the lower end opening part into a ladle 2 and blowing gas for stirring the molten steel from the bottom part of the ladle, the degree of vacuum in the cylindrical immersion tube is regulated to 100-500 Torr and the blowing quantity of the gas for stirring the molten steel is regulated to 0.6-3.0 Nl/min.t. The reaction vessel for desulfurizing with the powdery material under reduced pressure is used to this desulfurizing method.
