PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce occurrence of defective read images caused by a foreign matter in existence between an original and a read means. SOLUTION: This original reader is provided with a scanner 13 that is placed under an original 11 carried by a carrier roller 1 and a platen roller 2 or the like. The scanner 13 optically reads the original 11 that is carried above the scanner 13. A cylindrical light transmission roller 20 is turnably placed between the original 11 and the scanner 13, and dust removal blades 21 are placed at positions in contact with the outer circumference of the roller 20. In the configuration above, when the light transmission roller 20 is turned, the dust removal blades 21 remove the foreign matter adhered on the outer circumference of the light transmission roller 20. Thus, the foreign matter between the original 11 and the scanner 13 can be reduced.
