PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic sample observation device which is equipped with both of the function of a vertical fluorescence image pickup device and the function of a stereoscopic microscope and which can be used by switching both functions by simple operation. SOLUTION: When this organic sample observation device is used as the vertical fluorescence image pickup device, a dichroic mirror 9 is set in a posture (A). Then, exciting light 2 is reflected on the mirror 9 and guided by an objective lens 7 so as to irradiate an organic sample 1 and fluorescence radiated from the sample 1 is introduced to an infinite-distance focusing system by the lens 7 and guided to a projection lens for image pickup 8 through the mirror 9 and an absorption filter 13 so that the image thereof is picked up by the image pickup device 3. When the organic sample observation device is used as the stereoscopic microscope, the mirror 9 is rotated by 90 deg. from the posture (A) and switched to a posture (B). In this case, light 12 transmitted through the sample 1 or reflected on the sample 1 is introduced to the infinite- distance focusing system by the lens 7 and reflected on the mirror 9 thereafter. Besides, it is made incident on the mirror 14 of a stereoscopic observation optical system 6 and projected on an eyepiece 16 through a projection lens for an eyepiece 15 so as to be visualized and observed.
