PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high resolution of an image by making smaller ink droplets jumped from an ink thin layer. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is provided with an ink carrying roller with the outer circumferential surface facing a photosensitive drum covered by an ink thin layer. A large number of minute protrusion parts 40 are formed on the conductive surface of the ink supporting roller. The protrusion parts 40 are applied with a predetermined voltage of the polarity different from that of an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive drum. The ink thin layer 36 is formed such that (h1+h2-h3)/(h1$+h2)>=0.1 is satisfied with the premise that the height of the protrusion parts 40 on the ink supporting roller is h1, the ink layer thickness on the protrusion parts 40 is h2, and the ink layer thickness between the protrusion parts 40 is h3.
