PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a printing plate to be easily and certainly set on a printing press during the operation thereof by positioning a container, in a freely replaceable manner, on the frame of the printing press and gripping the forward edge part of the printing plate stored in the container with the help of a clamping device for a plate cylinder and mounting the printing plate on the plate cylinder by rotation thereof. SOLUTION: A printing plate 4 is stored in a container 1 in such a state that the plate 4 is clamped and the rear edge part 11 of the printing plate 4 is retained in a groove 12 formed in a shaft 10. When the new printing plate 4 is supplied to a plate cylinder 7, the container 1 is positioned, in a freely replaceable manner, on the frame of a printing press and the forward edge part 5 of the printing plate 4 drawn out of the container 1 is introduced into the forward edge part clamping device of the plate cylinder 7 to clamp the printing plate 4. Next the printing plate 4 is drawn out of the container 1 by rotating the plate cylinder 7 in an arrow 24 direction to be clamped around the plate cylinder 7. In this case, a guide element 9 is used so that the printing plate 4 is certainly supplied to be brought into contact precisely with the plate cylinder 7. The rear edge part 11 of the printing plate 4 is introduced into the rear edge part clamping device 14 with the help of a pressure roller 15 and is gripped by the device 14.
