PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cermet tool capable of facilitating visual discrimination between a worn part and a non-won part and properly estimating life of the tool. SOLUTION: A hard-coated layer is applied on a cermet surface and its brightness based on JIS Z8721 shall meet at least one of the following conditions: 1) Outside lightness VS of the hard-coated layer must be 6 or more, 2) Saturation CS of the hard-coated layer must be 4 or more. When an edge of the cermet tool is worn out, the worn part becomes blackish (VS:4 to 1, CS: N to 3). Therefore, a worn part can be visually discriminated from a non-worn part based on lightness or saturation difference by regulating the outside lightness and saturation of the hard-coated layer within the above described values. As a result, easy discrimination of used tools and estimation of a tool life are achieved.
