PREHEATING/MELTING METHOD FOR SCRAP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preheating scrap at 1200 deg.C or above without causing a fusion and then melting the scrap. SOLUTION: A scrap melting furnace 1 having an oxygen blow-up lance 2 and/or arc heating electrodes 3, 4 is concatenated in series with a shaft furnace 6 for preheating scrap through a rotary furnace 5 and scrap is thrown into a melting furnace while being preheated in the rotary furnace 5 and shaft furnace 6 by introducing exhaust gas from the melting furnace 1. In such a scrap preheating/melting system, an exhaust gas bypath 12 is provided between the inlet and outlet of the shaft furnace 6 and exhaust gas is introduced to the bypath 12 during nonoperating period other than the arc heating period and oxygen blow-up period.
