PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image recorder employing an ink ribbon in which the structure of a detector is simplified by providing a mechanism for detecting the run-out state of ink ribbon. SOLUTION: In an image recorder employing an ink ribbon, e.g. a facsimile, an oscillatory arm member having a part 47 sliding on an ink ribbon 31 is disposed under a state where a tension is imparted to the passage of the ink ribbon. An upper arm 44 is provided with an actuator 43 and combined with a sensor 41 to constitute a detector 40. Under a state where the end of ink ribbon is separated from a feed roll and no tension is imparted, the sensor 41 delivers a signal to indicate run-out of ink ribbon.
