PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of dot crawl for vertical 4 pixel period caused on an longitudinal edge. SOLUTION: This color video camera has a CCD image pickup element that can independently read signals of each pixel, a complementary color mosaic color filter arrangement consisting of two horizontal pixels and four vertical pixels where color filters alternately consist of a magenta(Mg) and a green(Gr) on a 1st horizontal line, a cyan(Cy) and a yellow(Ye) on a 2nd horizontal line, a Gr, Mg on a 3rd horizontal line and a Ye, a Cy on a 4th horizontal line. A CCD image pickup element is used to sum signals of pixels and to generate a luminance signal. The video camera has a means that adjusts signal values of Mg pixels, a means that adjusts signal values of Gr pixels, a means that adjusts signal values of Cy pixels, and a means that adjusts signal values of Ye pixels so that at least the signal of the Mg pixels is nearly equal to the signal of the Gr pixels and the signal of the Ye pixels is nearly equal to the signal of the Cy pixels in the case of an achromatic color object.
