PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost multiple wavelength outer grating laser array, where a side mode suppression ratio is restrained from deteriorating and kinks are restrained from occurring. SOLUTION: High reflecting films 2-1 to 2-4 are formed on the rear edge face of a light emitting element array 1, so as to cover the intensity distribution of light that propagates through the active layers of the light emitting elements. High reflecting films 2-1 to 2-4 are not provided for unwanted light that leaks out and propagates through a region other than the active layer where a required light propagates, so that unwanted light hardly reflects from the rear edge face 7. That is, disused light is restrained from being reflected from the rear edge face 7, so that reduction in the side mode suppression ratio and the occurrence of kinks can be markedly lessened. The active layer formed inside each light emitting element is formed like a curve (kinked line), that extends from the front edge face 6 to the rear edge face 7, by which the disused light that leaks and propagates through a region other than an active layer can be less reflected from a rear edge face.
