PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an egg inspection device capable of determining the defective eggs with high inspection accuracy. SOLUTION: A projection image projected onto an egg-shell surface of an egg 100 by means of light emitted by lighting 1 is photographed by a CCD camera 4. By processing data of a photographed image by an image processing device 5, the area of only dirt on the egg-shell surface is obtained and therefore dirty egg inspection is performed. Its profile line is found from the photographed image by differentiation, then chain code data a for it is obtained, cracks of the egg shell are exactly distinguished from other streaks or specks based on the chain code data, and therefore cracked egg inspection is performed. Two different kinds of projection images are photographed by using red inspection light L and orange inspection light L emitted by two kinds of LEDs constituting the lighting 1, and blood-egg inspection is performed based on a histogram of brightness components of an image having brightness equating to a difference in brightness between the two photographed images.
