PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for working a rotary polygon mirror, capable of realizing the improvement of finishing accuracy of all components, the improvement of assembling accuracy at a low cost, and meeting the demand on higher speed of rotation at low costs. SOLUTION: A holding means 10 is provided with a rotationally operated rotary-operating body 30, an enlarging and reducing part 34 which is enlarged and reduced to hold a rotating central member 12 which is integrated into a rotary polygon mirror 11 or release the holding of the mirror, and a motion transforming means which transmits the rotational motion of the rotating- operating body 30 to the enlarging and reducing part 34 to enlarge or reduce the enlarging and reducing part. The holding means 10 is installed in an angle indexing mechanism 16, and the holding means 10 is rotated by a specified angle at a time by means of the angle indexing mechanism 16 to index a rotation angle to work the respective mirror faces of the rotary polygon mirror 11. The enlarging and reducing part 34 is preferably composed of metal or non-metal whose hardness is lower than that of the rotating central member 12 held by the enlarging and reducing part 34. |
