Internal combustion engines based on conventional operating principles have to convert a longitudinal movement into a rotating movement. For this they require both energy and a greater number of components. With known rotary engines, such as Wankel engines, optimal compression of the fuel-air mixture is not possible and sealing between the rotary piston and cylinder wall problematic. Owing to insufficient compression self-ignition systems are not possible either, as is also the case with other types of rotary engines or rotary piston systems. In contrast, in a rotary reciprocating internal combustion engine the pistons in the rotor operate in accordance with the camshaft principle, the rotor in the endless rotary cylinder rotating together with the pistons working in it. Power transmission to an operating shaft is from gear wheel to ring gear. |
