PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable any server to request retrieval and to efficiently retrieve suitable information in an information retrieving system including plural servers in a network. SOLUTION: When a retrieval request is outputted from a client to a certain server, the server (called as a main server) receiving the request prepares a retrieving condition corresponding to the server (S1) and checks whether information suitable for the retrieving request is stored in its own cache memory or not in each retrieving request (S2, S3). When suitable information exists in the cache memory, the information is outputted as a retrieved result, and when there is no suitable information, the server retrieves its own information data base when the retrieving condition is for the server itself (S5, S6) and stores the retrieved result in the cache memory. When the server itself is not an object server, the server sends the retrieving condition to another server (called as a slave server), receives its retrieving result and stores the received result in its own cache memory (S8).
