New benzofuran derivatives (I). Benzofuran derivatives of formula (I) are new. R1, R2 = H or 1-4C alkyl; X = O or S; Y = H or OH; Z' = H, halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, NH2, NO2, CN, CF3, COOR3, NHCOR3 or SO2NR3R4; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R4 = 1-4C alkyl; A = CH, COH, CCN, CCOOR3, COR4; or N-(CH2)n-Ar'; B = methylene group; or A + B = C=C; Ar = H; 1-4C alkyl, phenyl (1-4C alkyl), biphenylyl or naphthyl (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkoxy or 2-4C alkenyl); partially saturated 5- to 6-membered heterocyclic group (optionally substituted by 1-3 1-4C alkyl) condensed with a phenyl group and containing O atom(s); 5-6 membered heterocyclic group containing N and/or O and/or S; or phenyl substituted by R5-R7; R5-R7 = H, halo, CF3, 1-4C alkyl, methylenedioxy, phenoxy (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkoxy or halo); 2-4C alkenyl, 2-4C alkenyloxy, 1-4C alkoxy (optionally substituted by di(1-4C alkyl)amino) or 5 or 6 membered, saturated heterocyclic group containing one or two N or 1 N and 1 O, where the heterocyclic group is optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl); Ar' = diphenylmethyl, pyrimidinyl, naphthyl (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkoxy or 2-4C alkenyloxy), partially saturated 5-6 membered heterocyclic (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl) condensed with a phenyl group and containing O atom(s); or phenyl substituted by R5-R7; n = 0 or 1; or NR3R4 = 5-10 membered heterocyclic group containing N, O and/or S heteroatoms.
