Structural panel (2) of indefinite length is continuously formed by preparing a settable mixture, conveying it in a flowable state to a load chamber (6), forcing it from the load chamber through an inlet (15) toward the outlet (16) of an open ended mould chamber (17) by means of compression, and at least partially curing the mixture within the mould chamber while resisting movement until a predetermined consolidation pressure or density within the chamber is achieved. The mixture is subsequently allowed to move through the chamber in response to further mixture being forced through the inlet by the compression means and allowed to cure to form the structural panel progressively. Also claimed is an apparatus for forming the continuous structural panel of indefinite length. It includes mixing means for forming a settable mixture, transfer means for conveying the mixture in a flowable state to a load chamber, compression means for progressively forcing the mixture from the load chamber through the inlet toward the outlet of the chamber, means for resisting movement of the mixture until a predetermined consolidation pressure or density has been achieved. |
