PURPOSE: A novel process for preparing fully dispersed compositions containing various thermoplastic polymers and polyamides and decomposing the thermoplastic polymers only to an insignificant degree are provided. Further, compositions prepared by the process; their use; and polymer blend, molding, film or fibers containing them are provided. CONSTITUTION: A process for preparing compositions containing at least one thermoplastic polymer A and at least one polyamide B, comprises the steps of: dissolving the thermoplastic polymer A in at least one lactam b and optionally further polyamide-forming monomers b; and polymerizing the monomers b in the presence of 0.001 through 5wt.% of water relative to the monomers b. The thermoplastic polymer A includes any polymer dissolved or fully dispersed in lactams or their mixture with polyamide-forming monomers b. The amorphous polymer A is, preferably, polyarylene ether such as polyarylene ether sulfone or polyphenylene ether; polyetherimide, polyamidoimide, polystyrene; styrene copolymer such as styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer or styrene/diene copolymer; graft copolymer comprising diene such as ABS or AES or acrylate rubber; or other ethylene copolymer.
