A method and use for delivering a dose of insulin to the alveolar region of a non-human animals lungs by; a) using an aerosol device with a holding chamber with a powder entry port and mouthpiece, and insulin as a dry powder free from penetration enhancers and having an average particle size below 10ìm; b) dispersing an amount of the insulin dry powder in a gas stream to form an aerosol directed into the chamber, c) capturing the aerosol in the chamber, d) inhaling the aerosol by the patient.
