Rail mounted amphibious vehicle with infra-red remote control

A rail borne amphibious vehicle includes a remote control system that uses visible light to transmit the remote control signals. The remote control signals are transmitted from a central control station 53 through light sources 59 which are distributed along the route followed by the vehicle. The light sources may use IR light. The system allows two way transmission of information, so that the central control station can monitor the condition of the vehicle and its occupants.
