PURPOSE: A control system for an internal combustion engine is provided to reduce an output torque of an engine properly by changing a combustion method. CONSTITUTION: On stepping on an accelerator pedal(25), the depression amount of the pedal(25) is detected by a pedal position sensor(26) and a motor(24) operates thereof. Thereby, a sectional area of an intake passage(32) is changed to control the amount of air flowing into each combustion chamber(16). An ignitor(41a) decides the ignition time of an ignition plug(41). The fuel injected into the combustion chamber(16) corresponding to each injector(40) is mixed with the air flowing into the chamber(16) through the intake passage(32). Thus, an air-fuel mixture is formed in the combustion chamber(16).
