The mechanism, designed for curtains hung from two curved semi-circular rods (1) with interchangeable end knobs (3), consists of a vertical rod (5) pivoting about its lengthwise axis relative to brackets (7) fixed to the wall on each side of the window. The upper end of each vertical rod has a support (4) for attaching to a plate (2) on the end of a curtain rod (1), while the lower end has a hook (6) to hold back the open curtain and to act as a handle for rotating the rod manually. When the vertical rods are turned the curtain rods are rotated so that the curtains move away from the window to be placed on either side of it.
