The benzene ethanamide derivatives have the formula II wherein: Ar is optionally substituted phenyl or 1- or 2- naphthyl; R1 is H, alkyl, alkyl-phenyl or optionally substituted phenyl; R2 is H, alkyl, benzyl or a-methylbenzyl and R5 is H or -CHR3OH wherein R3 is H, alkyl, optionally substituted phenyl or 1- or 2-naphthyl.
