The transmitter uses two modes of modulation to carry two signals simultaneously. The system comprises two sensors (1,2) which are arranged near to each other, each converting a physical value (p, T) into a respective electrical signal (PAM, PWM). A transmitter (3) is connected to the two sensors, providing a signal (s) on its output. The signal is modulated in pulse width to indicate the first sensor signal, and in pulse amplitude to indicate the second sensor signal. A connection line (5) is connected to the transmitter, and this leads to a receiver (6) where the modulated signal is decoded. At this point two signals (Ep and ET) are produced which correspond to the physical values measured by the two sensors.
