The extractor has a suction intake device (3) which can be extended up out of the plane of the open cooking area to any required level above the cooking area or a cooking pan set thereon. The intake device is in flow connection with the suction device through a length compensating pipe connection. the suction intake device can be swivelled out over the top of a cooking pan and can be operated by a motor-gear drive unit. The suction intake device is fitted on a column (7).
