The floating cable, in a core and mantle structure, has a cord-type shaped air cushion film (2) as the flotation material. The air cushion film (2) is wholly shrouded by a film (3) for protection against ultra violet light, in turn covered by a netting mantle (1) of textile filaments. The air cushion film (2) cord is covered by a hollow braiding, or a coarse mesh mantle of taut filaments (4).
