The hearing aid or tinnitus masking device (1) has a metal housing (2), provided with a battery compartment (7) which is sealed from the remainder of the housing by a water-tight seal, e.g. an O-ring seal (3). The opening (5) in the metal housing for entry of sound waves is closed by a water-tight foil allowing passage of the sound waves.
