The blank casting process involves feeding the melt (16) from a pressure-tight crucible (10) through a riser (22) immersed in the melt against gravity into the cavity in the mold. The cavity is flushed with low-pressure nitrogen from the melt speculum in the riser as far as the mold cavity. The pressure is then raised for the solidification of the melt.
