The invention concerns an automatic reader of an apparatus utilising agar diffusion technique, comprising inside a mount frame illuminating means (17), an electronic CDD camera (19) and means for placing a Petri dish in the illumination field of the illuminating means and the camera field. The invention is characterised in that it comprises a table (26) mounted sliding on the frame, a dish-bearing plate (27) mounted on the table and designed to receive at least a dish, and means driving in translation to cause the table to slide into a loading position, wherein the plate is capable of being loaded or unloaded from a dish, and in at least one reading position, wherein at least a portion of the dish surface is in said illumination and camera fields.
