The invention relates to an air intake system for an internal combustion engine, notably for a direct injection spark ignition engine. Said system comprises a cylinder head (14) delimiting at least one cylinder, a suction line (10) presenting at least one air duct (20) per cylinder, and for each cylinder, at least one intake port (22) which is situated in the cylinder head (14) and has an inlet orifice (24) which opens into a cylinder assigned to it. The suction line (10) and the cylinder head (14) are connected via a cylinder head flange (12) in such a way that an air duct (20) of the suction line (10) is connected to a corresponding intake port (22) in the cylinder head (14) such that fluid is able to circulate. In the air duct (20) of the suction line (10) a flap valve (32) is positioned which optionally narrows the cross-section of the air duct (20). According to the invention a tumble control valve (26) is positioned in the intake port (22) which divides the intake port (22) along a defined section between the cylinder head flange (12) and the inlet orifice (24). The flap valve (32) is mounted such that it projects over the cylinder head flange (12) and configured in such a way that it contacts the tumble control valve (26) in the position in which it narrows the cross-section of the air duct (20). |
